What is vipassana?

Vipassana meditation is believed to be the pure form of the Buddha’s meditation. Vipassana means “insight". Using the breath as an anchoring sensation, vipassana calls us to become aware of what is within and without in order to know the true state of being.

Several other forms of mediations are also shared here, such as metta (lovingkindness) and mindfulness. The most common thing they all share is focus on the breath and awareness in the body.

An important thing to keep in mind is that the goal of this practice is not to meditate. I know, right? It’s to become mindful, to live with mindful awareness. Meditation is an activity that I can teach and we can practice that will become a tool for you to use. What I mean is, meditation on the cushion teaches skills that enables you to live mindfully off the cushion.

A beginner’s Journey

A longtime yoga practitioner and a sometime metta practitioner, I had been tip-toeing around a consistent meditation practice for many years before finally allowing it to change my life and my way of moving through the world.

In “The Prologue”, I tell the story of one particular practice that finally opened me in all the places I needed to be opened.

This practice has changed my life, my brain, my heart. So much so that I want to share it now with you. Pause. Listen. Let it change your life, too.
