In this truly special episode, Courtney is joined by her friend Jenny, who is living her best sober life out loud. Through this honest, vulnerable, and funny conversation, Courtney and Jenny explore the roles mindfulness and meditation play in establishing a healthy relationship with alcohol, other substances, or any habitual behaviors. Jenny declares herself an expert in being an alcoholic and tells the story of her early recovery and her journey toward Buddhist principles as a tool toward remaining sober for nearly a decade (..and counting). Courtney and Jenny name drop A LOT of the Buddhist teachers they love most and explore the ways these teachings inform emotional regulation, distress tolerance, coping, and self-compassion.
Though Jenny's path has been centered on abstinence, the ideas presented here are also applicable for anyone seeking a way to approach everything from moderation to more intention in their consumption.
Jenny Hasted is in long term recovery from alcoholism. She uses Buddhist principles which emphasize mindfulness and meditation to support her wellbeing. Jenny founded the Cecil County Recovery Sangha and volunteers on the Board of Directors for Voices of Hope, her local grassroots recovery advocacy organization. Jenny also very much enjoys contributing to the Recovery (Sort of) podcast as a production coordinator and frequent cohost.
