We are so excited to be welcoming Rachel Spear to the show! Rachel is a social worker in group practice, as well as an adjunct instructor, who has a special interest in working with folx struggling with disordered eating.
In this episode, Courtney and Rachel talk about many of the influences that shape our relationships to our bodies - familial, cultural, societal - as well as some pathways toward repairing that relationship. They also discuss various aspects of eating disorders, such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating, and other patterns of disordered eating. Rachel Spear, LCSW, from Fordham University, joined It's A Girl Thing in 2015. Rachel co-facilitates weekly IGT expressive arts support groups and offers individual therapy to teens.
Rachel enjoys expressive arts, meeting new people, and photography. She appreciates the level of complexity and diversity each individual has to offer, and wishes to celebrate each person's truth. Because she actively works to see the beauty in every person, Rachel holds the core belief that self love and self care are not selfish, but selfless, and the key to freedom!
